STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX –  Arizona State Representative Walt Blackman is urging Governor Katie Hobbs to declare a State of Emergency in response to the rapidly expanding Greer Fire in eastern Arizona, which has grown to over 7,000 acres and is 0% contained.

The wildfire, which ignited Tuesday morning near the unincorporated community of Greer, continues to spread northward, driven by strong winds, dry vegetation, and rugged terrain. The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management confirmed Wednesday that the fire is still uncontained and poses a growing threat to nearby communities.

“This is a dangerous, fast-moving wildfire that threatens homes, livelihoods, and natural resources in our district—especially in and around Greer,” said Representative Blackman. “I have formally requested a State of Emergency through the Governor’s Office to unlock the critical resources, personnel, and support needed to protect our residents and contain this fire before it causes further damage.”

Representative Blackman is urging residents to stay alert and follow all local emergency updates and evacuation orders.

“Lives and property are at stake,” Representative Blackman said. “We need an immediate, coordinated state response to ensure no community is left behind.”
