FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – State Representative Teresa Martinez today announced a high-energy kickoff event on Thursday, June 5, at 9:15 a.m. at the Arizona House of Representatives to launch a Statewide Fitness Challenge in partnership with the Arizona Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs. Media is invited to attend.
The event marks the beginning of a month-long initiative to encourage kids across Arizona to stay active and healthy during summer break. Dozens of youth from area Boys & Girls Clubs will participate in the Capitol launch, where state lawmakers will join them on the floor of the Arizona House of Representatives for a series of fun physical challenges.
Mike Tyson—iconic and legendary boxer who was the youngest heavyweight champion of all time, and currently one of the most recognizable and influential entertainers and entrepreneurs in the world—will attend the kickoff event alongside Daniel Puder, former WWE Tough Enough champion and cofounder of the Tyson’s Transformational Technologies Academy, an education-focused initiative supporting youth in Maricopa County. Students from the Tyson Academy will also attend the Capitol event and take part in the activities alongside Boys & Girls Club members.
Mascots from the Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Fiesta Bowl will also be present at the event to support the kids and promote healthy living.
“Arizona kids deserve every chance to grow up strong, confident, and healthy—and that starts with movement,” said Representative Martinez. “Being healthy doesn’t have to be complicated—it just takes a little effort every day. This challenge is a fun way for kids to build good habits, stay connected, and see that their leaders are rooting for them.”
The Statewide Fitness Challenge will run from June 5 through July 1, with Club members across the state participating in daily activities. Youth will track their progress at local Clubs through a variety of simple exercises. Legislators are encouraged to visit Clubs in their districts throughout June to show support and join the activities.
Arizona is home to 77 Boys & Girls Clubs, reaching more than 44,000 youth through both Club membership and community outreach programs. The Statewide Fitness Challenge offers a fun, structured way to help kids stay active and build confidence throughout the summer.
