STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – State Representative David Livingston, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, today announced committee approval of House Resolution 2002 and House Concurrent Resolution 2047, legislation affirming Israel’s sovereignty over Judea and Samaria and directing Arizona to use historically accurate terminology in official state communications.

The resolutions recognize the historical, biblical, and legal legitimacy of Judea and Samaria and formally reject the term “West Bank,” which was imposed during Jordan’s illegal occupation of the territory from 1948 to 1967. Both bills passed the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday and are expected to be considered together on the House floor next week.

HR 2002 requires approval by the Arizona House of Representatives. HCR 2047, if approved by the House, would advance to the Arizona Senate for consideration.

“Government should not adopt language created to erase history,” Chairman Livingston said. “Judea and Samaria are central to Jewish history, faith, and national identity. Arizona should speak plainly and accurately, without yielding to political pressure or revisionism. The Committee’s vote moves these measures closer to the House floor, where members will decide whether facts still matter.”

The resolutions also recognize the importance of Judea and Samaria to Israel’s security and to United States interests in preventing terrorist-controlled territory from taking hold in the region.

“As chairman of Appropriations, I take seriously what Arizona endorses through its official actions,” Livingston said. “These resolutions affirm Israel’s right to defend itself and Arizona’s refusal to participate in rewriting history.”
