STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX –  In another wave of senseless vetoes, Governor Katie Hobbs on Tuesday denied four key pieces of legislation sponsored by Republican State Representative Lisa Fink that would have safeguarded medical freedom, clarified legal definitions grounded in biological reality, and defended Arizona’s authority over its own elections.

The vetoed bills addressed different areas of public policy but shared a clear, commonsense goal of putting Arizona families, students, and voters first.

• HB2058 would have ensured that adult students at Arizona’s public colleges are fully informed of their right to opt out of vaccine requirements on medical or personal belief grounds, respecting personal and religious beliefs.
• HB2060 would have asserted Arizona’s sovereign authority to set voting qualifications for federal elections held within the state, declaring that the same rules used for all other elections—such as citizenship and residency—shall also apply to federal elections. 
• HB2062, the Arizona Sex-based Terms Act, would have restored clarity and biological factuality to how our state laws define terms such as male, female, mother, father, and other sex-based terms, aimed at protecting single-sex spaces—like locker rooms, bathrooms, domestic violence shelters, and sexual assault crisis centers—from being violated.
• HB2063 would have required schools to inform parents about their legal right to claim immunization exemptions for their children, promoting honesty and freedom.

“These bills reflect what most Arizonans believe: parents should be informed, adults should have medical freedom, voters should prove citizenship, and the law should acknowledge biological reality,” said Representative Fink. “But instead of standing with parents, students, and Arizona voters, Katie Hobbs chose to stand with bureaucrats and far-left special interests. Her vetoes are a direct insult to the values of informed consent, election integrity, and scientific truth.”

The Governor’s veto of HB2058 and HB2063 continues a pattern of ignoring parents and trampling on personal liberty. Vetoing HB2062 undermines efforts to maintain accurate and consistent language in law. And by rejecting HB2060, Governor Hobbs once again refused to defend Arizona’s ability to enforce its own election standards—proving her readiness to relinquish state sovereignty in favor of federal control.

“Governor Hobbs doesn’t trust parents, she doesn’t trust voters, and she clearly doesn’t trust biology,” Representative Fink added. “Her vetoes are out of touch with Arizona families and show a disturbing loyalty to government overreach at the expense of basic rights. Rejecting commonsense legislation like this makes one thing certain: Governor Hobbs is more interested in indulging in progressive politics that don’t actually help families, time and time again choosing ideology over integrity, leaving Arizonans to pay the price.”
