STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – Governor Hobbs on Tuesday presented a budget that fails to meet the 2025 Majority Plan on water security and housing supply, not to mention live up to her own promises on these issues during her 2025 State of the State.

Currently, the Governor’s budget allocates zero dollars toward long-term water augmentation, rural water supply development, water conservation, or groundwater recharge projects.

“As usual, the Governor talks a big game on water but does little to prioritize the solutions that matter,” said Representative Gail Griffin, Chairman of the House Natural Resources, Energy & Water Committee.

Meanwhile, House Republicans have introduced several bills to allocate state resources toward these objectives, demonstrating Republicans’ leadership on securing Arizona’s future water supplies.

On housing, the Governor’s budget is similarly lacking, offering no solutions to increase the critical supply of for-sale housing that is needed in areas that have experienced rapid price increases due to the Governor’s 2023 anti-housing moratorium. Instead, the Governor’s budget proposes millions of dollars toward historic preservation and fish hatcheries, while Arizona is facing a historic housing supply crisis.

“With Governor Hobbs’ latest proposal, it seems the Governor is more interested in building new homes for fish and birds than building new homes for hard-working Arizonans,” Representative Griffin said. “Nothing in the Governor’s budget does anything to increase the critical supply of for-sale housing or support the American Dream of home ownership.”

“Arizona House Republicans are committed to advancing fiscally responsible solutions that address our critical housing and water supply issues, preserve the American Dream, and unleash economic prosperity in our state while protecting our individual rights and liberties,” Representative Griffin emphasized. “We will continue to put the interests of Arizona citizens first—and this will be reflected in our ongoing budget negotiations and proposals.”
