STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX –  The Arizona House today gave final approval to HB2867, the Antisemitism in Education Act, sending it to the governor’s desk. Sponsored by State Representative Michael Way and passed with bipartisan support, the bill bars Arizona’s public schools and public colleges from promoting antisemitic conduct and establishes disciplinary procedures for violations.

The bill prohibits teachers, administrators, and university faculty from promoting antisemitism or forcing students to support antisemitic viewpoints in exchange for credit or advancement. It also prohibits the use of public funds for antisemitic instruction, training, or programming. Reports of violations must first be made to a school or college official, who is required to investigate and correct any confirmed violations within 30 days. Appeals may be brought to a school board or the Arizona Board of Regents. Students and parents may file a court action only after administrative remedies are exhausted.

“Arizona’s students and teachers deserve to learn and work in an environment free from antisemitic hate,” said Representative Way. “This bill ensures schools are places of learning, not battlegrounds for political indoctrination.”

HB2867 is grounded in the IHRA definition of antisemitism, already recognized by the U.S. Department of State. The bill explicitly protects instruction on Jewish history, the Holocaust, and the State of Israel, and does not infringe on First Amendment rights.

“This should be an easy decision for the governor,” Representative Way said. “The Legislature has done its job. The public supports this. Now it’s up to the governor to do hers and show that Arizona won’t tolerate antisemitism in public education.”
